It was a night that the thousands of Catholic attendees from across the Diocese of Lafayette along with Bishops, priests, deacons and religious will remember for the rest of their lives.
Held at the Lafayette Convention Center (next to the Cajundome), the celebration began around 4pm with open tours of exhibits spanning the 100 year history of the diocese along with memorabilia from the years
At 6pm, the procession began with more than 600 members of groups and organizations from across the diocese and representing nearly all church parishes.
The event was held on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and representatives of the Hispanic community in full cultural clothing brought in a statue of Our Lady for placement by the stage followed by dancing performers honoring Our Lady.
Following the procession, over a hundred priests and deacons from across the diocese in addition to Bishops from across the state of Louisiana processed in for the celebration of mass.
A stage with altar and backed by 25' tall images of Jesus, Mary and St. Vianney, patron saints of the Diocese of Lafayette presented a wonderful setting for the evening events.
At the conclusion of mass and the celebration, all guests were treated to a wonderful array of food and refreshments on both levels of the Convention Center.
All in all, it was a wonderful, inspiring and tremendous closing event of the historic centennial year of our diocese. We hope you will enjoy a sampling of photos from the evening in our photo album below.
